Royals Announce 2009-10 Game Night Promotion Schedule

September 10, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2009-10 Promotional Schedule of Game Night Events and Special Giveaways. In the team's ninth year in Reading, the Royals are ready to ‘Unleash the Roar' with a season chalked full of activities and giveaways, including many traditional fan favorites and several new contests and features. The promotional schedule kicks off on Opening Night (Thursday, October 15, 2009) when the Royals will ‘Blow the Roof Off' the Sovereign Center with a fun-filled celebration as the team faces the Kalamazoo Wings for the first time in history. That night, the Royals will give away a special Unleash the Roar t-shirt to the first 2500 fans in attendance courtesy of Metro Bank. The Royals' promotional schedule will conclude thirty-six home games later on Saturday, April 3, 2010, when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center for WAWA Fan Appreciation Night.

As previously announced, Opening Night this season will also serve as the debut for ‘Thirsty Thursdays', when select draft beer at the Sovereign Center will be just $2.00. As with all Monday through Thursday games this season, Opening Night is also a WAWA Weekday, which means that fans can stop by any area WAWA and pick up a coupon for $5.00 off any ticket at the Sovereign Center other than the Super Saver. Also, WAWA Weekdays mean great food and beverage bargains at Royals' games, as hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and soda all are just one dollar a piece.

Also on Opening Night, the Royals will unveil the team's new Game Night Program, which will be given free of charge to a minimum of 1500 fans at all thirty-six home games this year. In addition to containing several new features, the new Game Night Program will actually fold out to a 14" x 22" full color poster of a Royals' player. The player featured in the Game Night Program will be available at a specially designated location within the Sovereign Center after the game to sign his poster for thirty minutes, unless of course unforeseen circumstances outside the control of the Royals preclude the autograph session.

The Home Opener will be loaded with explosive and exciting activities, and it will also serve as the launch date of a brand new contest in which the Royals and Berks & Beyond Employment Services seek to identify the ‘Toughest Job In Berks County'. Although that contest kicks off on Opening Night, it will be the center focus of the second Thirsty Thursday of the season, October 29, 2009, when Berks & Beyond will host a job fair and the Royals will face the always rough and tumble task of trying to handle the tough guys from Toledo-this time as the "Walleye" make their first appearance ever at the Sovereign Center.

Before we get to that game, however, the Royals' face the arch-rival Elmira Jackals at the Sovereign Center in the second game of the Season Opening Weekend on Saturday, October 17, 2009. That night, Royals' fans will be rooting extra hard for a win so they can capitalize on another brand new promotion: ‘Sonic Saturdays' Presented by Sonic Drive-In. Under this new promotion, when the Royals win on Saturday at home-and there are thirteen Saturday home games this season-fans can take their ticket stub to any Reading-area Sonic Drive-In within forty-eight hours of the game and receive a FREE Combo Meal with the purchase of a regularly priced Combo Meal of an equal or greater value. Royals' fans will be rooting just as hard for Sunday home wins this season due to a similar promotion for that day of the week: ‘Subway Sundays' Presented by Subway Restaurants. Under this deal, when the Royals win at home on Sunday-and there are nine Sunday home games this year-fans can bring their ticket stub to any participating Berks County Subway location within forty-eight hours of the game and receive a free 6" sub with the purchase of a regularly priced 6" sub of equal or greater price.

The first Sunday home game of the season-November 1, 2009, against the Johnstown Chiefs-will also feature one of many of the new giveaways at the Sovereign Center this year: a ‘Fan Aboard' sign courtesy of Auto Spa of Wyomissing. Other new giveaways include a water bottle from Capital BlueCross, a special ‘turn-back-the-clock' giveaway courtesy of Quadrant and Lasting Image Promotional Products and Apparel, a picture frame courtesy of CTCE Federal Credit Union for kids 12 years of age and younger, and movie passes courtesy of Reading Movies 11 Imax. The Royals will also continue a tradition of giving away a number of the classic collector's edition items as well, including a series of four new beverage glasses (21 years of age and older), the official team trading cards, and a bobblehead of former Royal goaltender (and candidate for the U.S. Olympic team) Jon Quick.

Of course, a number of game nights (and days) this season will focus on a holiday theme, starting with Halloween night-well, actually Halloween DAY as the Royals take on the Johnstown Chiefs at 1:05 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Even though the moon may not be visible during the afternoon, that shouldn't prevent fans from participating in a ‘Crazy Costume' contest and other spooky activities sponsored Rock Hits Y102. On Sunday, November 8, the Royals will join forces with Deibler Dental to recognize Veterans' Day, honor our country's military, and provide fans with a pocket-sized U.S. Constitution. Even though it's not an official ‘holiday,' we'll keep our eyes out for black cats and fans dressed in black leather jackets when Classic Harley Davidson sponsors our Friday the Thirteenth celebration on November 13, 2009 and the giveaway will be a commemorative pin. Another Friday with some flair-and ‘Fair'-will come on Friday, November 27, 2009, when VF Outlet will give fans a bit of a respite from the frenetic holiday shopping during our annual ‘Purple Friday' game and the giveaway will be a Photo-Pack of Royals' fan favorites.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday may be a day off for most people, but not for the Royals who will face the Trenton Devils in matinee hockey (1:05 pm) on Monday, January 18, 2010. That game has been designated ‘Kids Day' and all youngsters twelve years of age and younger will receive a special mascot picture frame courtesy of CTCE Federal Credit Union. Everyone can feel like a kid-or maybe even a player-as the Royals' DeCarlo Custom Cabinetry locker room will be open for a post-game tour during which fans can also meet and greet players in their ‘home away from home'.

On Saturday, March 13, Royals' fans will once again whet their whistle with a St. Patrick's Day Celebration, which is now-at least inside the Sovereign Center-regularly referred to as St. Hat Trick's Day. Not only will the Royals give out a hat that day courtesy of Quadrant and Lasting Image Promotional Products and Apparel, but also might help some fan find a "pot o' gold" in the form of a $1,000,000.00 pay out courtesy of the Reading Eagle if the right combination of Royals' players happen to bag a trifecta of hat tricks in the Royals' game that night against the Toledo Walleye.

As always, the Royals promotional schedule is weighted heavily towards giving back to the community, with several games dedicated to helping local charitable institutions. On December 5, 2009, we'll host our annual United Way Night, when the Royals will wear special jerseys and the team's first goal of the game will cause the stuffed animals to ‘rain from on high' in the traditional Teddy Bear Toss. The Royals will once again show the community how real men can wear pink during the Pink in the Rink Celebration (February 6, 2010), as we do what we can to help in the continuing search for a cure for breast cancer. The Royals will also participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life during the second to last game of the season, Saturday, March 20, 2010, against the Johnstown Chiefs.

This season, the Royals will don some classic duds for Turn Back the Clock Night (December 30, 2009), when the team will pay homage to our newest NHL affiliate, the Boston Bruins, and to one of the great teams in hockey history as we honor the 1972 Stanley Cup Champions. The night before (December 29, 2009) when the Royals take on the Elmira Jackals at the Sovereign Center, the organization will conclude what should be one of the most exciting contests of the year, as a pair of lucky fans will win a trip to Boston-not to the venerable old Garden-but rather to a renovated Fenway Park, where those two fans will be holding a couple of tickets to enjoy a classic of a different type: the 2010 Bridgestone/NHL Winter Classic game between the Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Other ‘classic' hockey games to be played at the Sovereign Center this year include Round Five of the Battle of the Badges, which will once again pit the respective hockey teams from the Reading Police and Fire Departments (February 28, 2010) in their annual showdown. And, once again, the young folks will make their own bid to get some hardware when the East Penn Scholastic Hockey League holds its annual high school playoff championships prior to the Royals' game against the Johnstown Chiefs on March 14, 2010.

The Royals current list of 2008-09 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways is set out below. More information on all contests described in this release will be forthcoming at more relevant dates. Please note that this promotional schedule is subject to change.
