Chiefs Sign Steady Blueliner

Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed defenseman Jim Jorgensen for the 2009-10.

"Jim Jorgensen will add experience and depth to our blueline. He is a solid two-way player whose skill will be an asset on special teams," said Chiefs vice president and general manager Bill Bredin.

A 6-0, 200-pounder from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Jorgensen will be playing in his second full season of professional hockey this season. He broke into the ECHL by playing eight games with the Las Vegas Wranglers in 2008 after the completion of his college career. Last season Jorgensen was traded three times, but was still able to amass 23 points (8G, 15A) in 65 games.

His journey began with four games for the Wranglers then took him to Gwinnett for 20 games. The Gladiators then traded Jorgensen to Stockton, but before he could suit up there the Thunder dealt him to Phoenix where he closed out the season with 18 points (7G, 11A) in 41 games. In spite of his short time with the Roadrunners, Jorgensen led team defensemen in points, goals, and assists.

"I'm excited to get everything started and have a good season in Johnstown. The Chiefs were the right fit for me because they will play an up-tempo style of game, and because players here are coached well and get chances to move up," said Jorgensen.

Prior to turning pro, Jorgensen manned the blueline for the Ferris State University Bulldogs (CCHA). Over four seasons (2004-2008) he skated in 114 games and produced 38 points (8G, 30A). His best season came in 2005-06 when, as a sophomore, Jorgensen posted 15 points (2G, 13A) to lead Bulldog defensemen in points and assists.

Jorgensen becomes the 12th Chief under contract for 2009-10. He joins Brent Patry, Torren Delforte, Jozef Sladok, Erik Felde, Matt Robinson, Sean Berkstresser, David Schulz, Ryan Menei, Greg Gallagher, Mike Knight, and Kyle Bushee.
