Brockton Rox News Release
Little Falls, NJ (June 29, 2007) -- LF Jeremy Coronado had five hits including his first HR of the 2007 season as the Brockton Rox rallied from five runs down to beat the New Jersey Jackals 16-10 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ. Coronado had hits in his first five at-bats while driving in three runs, scoring three more, and stealing two bases. After scoring just 11 runs in the previous five games, the Rox broke out with a season-high in runs (16) and hits (23). C Jason Radwan had four hits and three RBI, while 1B Francisco Lebron extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a two-hit performance. The win over the first-place Jackals brings the Rox's first-half record to 16-18.
The Jackals scored five runs in the first two innings, including four runs (three unearned) in the first against Rox starter RHP Luis Carreras. In the third inning, the Rox broke out of their offensive slump with four runs to cut the lead to one. Lebron had the key hit, a two-run single to open the scoring; the hit extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Radwan and SS Fredy De La Cruz also had RBI in the inning to cut the lead to 5-4 Jackals. With the Jackals leading 8-6 in the top of the fifth inning, Coronado struck with one of the biggest hits of the night. With two on and two and two outs, he ripped his first HR of the season, a three-run shot which gave the Rox a 9-8 lead, their first lead of the night.
LHP Donavon Hendricks relieved Carreras and allowed a single run on a C Matt Lauderdale HR in the sixth inning, as the Jackals tied the game at nine. In the seventh, CF Joe Hough broke a 0-21 slump with a double and 3B Eugene Julien broke a 0-18 slump with an RBI triple as the Rox took a 10-9 lead. One pitch later, 2B Ryan Sickles executed a suicide squeeze to perfection, plating Julien and giving the Rox the lead for good. Brockton scored three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, capped by a RF Tony Gonzalez two-run single. Gonzalez had three hits in the game. RHP Matt Reilly and RHP Ryan Burnau combined to limit the Jackals to a run over three innings to complete the victory.
