St. Cloud Rox News Release
The Rox once again got plenty of hits (nine) but could not string them together in losing to the Waterloo Bucks 3-2 Tuesday night. The Bucks remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season while the Rox fall to 2-5 after Waterloo's two game sweep.
St. Cloud got on the board first when Jamie Simpson (Eastern Michigan) blasted a solo home run in the second inning off of Bucks starter Brock Hudgens (Charlotte).
The Rox threatened to do more damage in the third but could not plate a runner. Shortstop Ryan Kiesel (Trinity Christian) led off with a walk off Hudgens. Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) followed with a double but Kiesel was thrown out at home plate trying to score. Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) walked to put runners on first and second but Hudgens got a strikeout and a fly ball out to end the threat.
The Bucks scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, scratching together singles and walks to build the lead.
The Rox stranded a pair of runners in scoring position on the fourth, fifth and eighth innings and one in the sixth. Overall, St. Cloud finished with nine hits to Waterloo's three.
The Rox second run was scored in the top of the ninth on a Chris Paul (California) sacrifice to score Vazquez, who had doubled leading off the frame.
Vazquez, Paul, Ben Morgan (Georgia Southern) and Will Huff (Erskine) each had two hits for the Rox. Starting pitcher Alex Roberts (Newberry) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits.
The Rox are back home at Faber Field Wednesday night for a game against the Alexandria Beetles. It's also team poster night presented by Rengel Printing and Zaffiro's Pizza at Parkwood.
