Chinooks Hook First Home Victory
June 5, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
The Lakeshore Chinooks hooked their first victory at Kapco Park in a 2-1 victory over the Eau Claire Express Tuesday night.
Pitching dominated again in another low scoring game. The Chinooks have played seven games this season, each of them being decided by one run. The Chinooks did manage to put 11 runners on board, including loading the bases in the first inning.
The go-ahead run came from a solo jack from Sam Koenig (UW-Milwaukee) off of Andrew Hedrick in the 5th. "It feels pretty good to help the team any way I can. It's nice to do it in front of the fans that have come out to support us these two days at our first home games," said Koenig.
Starting pitcher Joe Greenfield inked the win for the Chinooks today, pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run with 4 hits, 3BB and 3K's. Greenfield out-dueled Eau Claire's Andrew Hedrick who also went 5 2/3 innings.
Along with tonight's victory, the Chinooks were also celebrating their own Eric Semmelhack (UW-Milwaukee) who was drafted in the 12th round by the hometown Milwaukee Brewers.
While Semmelhack left tonight's game early to take care of family business regarding the draft, his teammates weren't surprised at how early he was drafted. "He's put in a lot of hard work. It's great to see people coming out of Milwaukee getting drafted and getting looks from pro teams," said Chinook and UW-Milwaukee teammate Koenig.
The Chinooks look to put a win streak together tomorrow at home against the Battle Creek Bombers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm at Kapco Park in Mequon.
