Alexandria Beetles News Release

Thunder Bay, ON -Alexandria had five hits from the bottom two spots in the lineup and three perfect innings in relief from Jon Reed, but a five-run fourth for Thunder Bay (3-4) was enough to propel the Border Cats over the Beetles (2-5) on Tuesday afternoon.

Jared Musgrove went 2-4 in the eight hole and Dylan Raper was 3-4 in the nine spot in the Beetles lineup, but Alexandria had just four hits from the rest of the lineup and couldn't come up with a big hit all afternoon.

In his second start of the season, both against Alexandria, Wes Parsons went seven innings strong, scattering six hits, to improve to 2-0 on the season. Michael Reed, who earned the victory in the season opener against Thunder Bay, dropped to 1-1 giving up six runs in four innings.

Will Fulmer led the day off with a cracked double down the right field line but the Beetles couldn't drive him in. Thunder Bay quickly put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning with three hits and a walk and Reed was forced to work out of a bases loaded one out jam, throwing 26 pitches in the process.

Again in the second and third, Alexandria had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs and failed to score.

The Border Cats broke the game open in the fourth putting up five runs against Reed. A walk, double and three straight singles greeted the Beetles to start the inning with Thunder Bay scoring their final two runs of the frame on a sacrifice fly and a groundout.

After leaving another runner in scoring position with less than two outs in the fifth, Alexandria finally struck in the top of the seventh against Parsons on a two out RBI single by Dalton Leuschke to score David Borchardt.

But the Border Cats grabbed the run back on a single, wild pitch, passed ball and sacrifice fly to regain the six run edge and make the final 7-1.

Alexandria visits St. Cloud on Wednesday at 7:05 CST.
