Bullfrogs Edge Battle Creek in 11
June 5, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
After being held scoreless for nine consecutive innings, the Bullfrogs brought home two runs in the 11th inning, en route to a 9-7 victory over the Bombers in Battle Creek on Monday.
The 'Frogs leapt out of the gates in a big way, scoring seven runs in the first inning. The scoring was aided by two Battle Creek errors, and only three of the seven runs were credited as RBI. Justin Seager drove home a run with a ground-rule double to left-center field, and Ransom LaLonde drove home two more with a single to right-center.
Battle Creek began its comeback in the third inning. The Bombers pushed two across in that inning and one more in the fourth, but the big inning for the defending Northwoods League champions came in the sixth. Two 'Frogs errors, one on Ransom LaLonde and one on Kyle Fischer, led to four Bombers runs and the game was tied at seven.
The scoring then was silent until extra innings. After a scoreless tenth, Green Bay scored for the first time since the first inning when Nick Stein doubled in Mike Fischer from second base. Stein then got thrown out stealing third. Joel Klock reached base and was pinch ran for by Brian Celsi. Celsi scored on a Jason McMurray single, and Green Bay extended its lead to 9-7.
Bradley Wallace (1-0) threw his fifth inning on the mound, closing out the game in the 11th. He went five scoreless innings to close out the game, allowing just one hit, and earned the victory. Battle Creek's Brian Heldman (0-1) took the loss.
