Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers dropped their second straight game to the Willmar Stingers by a final score of 7-1, completing the two-game series sweep.

The home team was sloppy with the leather committing five errors on the night.

Picking up the loss for Rochester was starting pitcher Chris Noble (Pikeville). The defeat is Noble's second of the year (0-2).

Noble deserved a better fate in this one, giving up just two earned runs over 6.0 innings of work, but the Honkers could only manage to push across a single run on six hits.

Willmar starter Scott Lieser (St. Cloud State) tossed 7.0 innings, holding the Honkers to one run and scattering five hits. Lieser improves his record to 1-1 with the victory.

One bright spot for Honkers fans is the appearance of Reid Roper's (Illinois) bat, finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored. Roper was hitless in his previous twenty at bats coming into this one.

Honkers reliever Carl O'Neal (St. Mary's of TX) made his first appearance of the 2012 season, but could only make it through 1.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and walking three.

Jared Allen (Tennessee) pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief for Rochester in his second outing of the summer.

The Honkers (3-4) are on the road tomorrow in Duluth to begin a three-game set with the Huskies (4-3). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Honkers are starting DJ Snelten (Minnesota) against fellow left hander Evan Geist (Florida State).

Snelten is 0-0 this season with a 3.60 ERA. In his only outing so far this year, the tall lefty struck out ten Waterloo Bucks batters.

Geist is 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA in one start.
