Chucks Walk off Again
June 5, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wausau Woodchucks News Release
After Monday nights exciting walk-off victory, the Wisconsin Woodchucks were back in action again against the La Crosse Loggers looking to pull off another win before going away Wednesday in La Crosse.
It was a pitchers duel with Alex Gunn from the Loggers and Mark Royer from the "ËChucks were both hitless going into the fourth inning. The no hitter was broken up by 3rd basemen Brandon Bednar when he slapped a line drive into right for a single, bringing on the first base runner of the evening in the top of the 4th inning.
Immediately following the hit, an error on 3rd basemen Brendon Hayden allowed the second runner of the night on for the Loggers. The "ËChucks avoided the jam with a double play, and a ground out to end the inning.
The Woodchucks answered back in the bottom of the 4th, with patience, putting two base runners on, both by walks, placing them in scoring position. However, the "ËChucks grounded into a double play, followed by a groundout by Brian Smith to end the Inning stranding Center Fielders Brooks Braga on 3rd.
The game remained scoreless until Monday nights walk off hitter Chevas Numata, pounded a homerun to deep center field, as the Woodchucks struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo homerun.
However, the Loggers struck back in the 6th after two stolen bases by Brenden Farney, and a base knock by Richard Prigatano sent him home, tying the game at one a piece.
The La Crosse Loggers were not finished however, gathering another run on a throwing error by catcher Gabe Green sending short stop Brandon Defazio on home for a 2-1 lead in the 6th inning.
The "ËChucks still had game left coming in the bottom of the 8th inning, when a wild pitch got away from the Loggers catcher Keaton Aldridge, scoring Woodchucks left fielder Greg Hamrock to tie the game at 2, with one inning of play left in regulation.
Heading to the top of the 9th inning, the Woodchucks got themselves in trouble with only one gone, and bases juiced. With Loggers center fielder Zach Madrigral at the plate, the "ËChucks allowed an infield single trying to double up, and allowed the runner at third to score the go ahead run in the top of the 9th.
With the Woodchucks down one going into the bottom of the 9th, the rally caps came out. Brian Smith started it out again for the "ËChucks; a repeat for him from the Monday night walk-off thriller, with a single to right field putting the tying run on the bases. But then with Jim Correniti at the plate, took a pitch he won't forget, capitalizes on a 2-run bomb to left field with another Woodchuck Walk Off hit against the La Crosse Loggers for the second night in a row.
The Woodchucks will continue play tomorrow in Wisconsin Rapids for their third game of the week.
