St. Cloud Rox News Release
DULUTH-The St Cloud Rox split a doubleheader with the Duluth Huskies at Wade Stadium Saturday evening. The Rox took game one 4-3 before the Huskies won game two by an identical score.
Lucas Long (Arizona) pitched well for the Rox in game one in his second start since arriving from the NCAA College World Series. The righty threw 5.2 innings and scattered nine hits while allowing three runs. Adam Maxon pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save of the season.
Carlos Lopez (Cal St-Fullerton) was 2-3 with a run and an RBI for the Rox in the first game to lead the way offensively, while Jamie Simpson (Eastern Michigan) also had a big game with a pair of hits and two RBI.
The Rox got a great effort from starting pitcher Keaton Siomkin (California) in game two. He only allowed a single hit and no runs through five innings before running into turbulence in the sixth. A pair of singles, a sacrifice bunt and a groundout led to the Huskies cutting a 2-0 Rox lead to a single run. Huskies left fielder Luke Campbell (New Mexico) hit a two-run blast to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh and final inning.
The Rox were able to score a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game but saw the Huskies score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 4-3 win.
Phil Imholte (St Cloud State) and Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) each had a pair of hits and an RBI in game two for the Rox, while Lopez was 1-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in the loss.
The Rox are home for a matinee against Duluth on Sunday at 1:05. It's Youth Jersey Day at Faber Field presented by Coborn's, Wild Country, St Cloud Times and Lite Rock 99.9. The first 500 fans 12 and under will receive a replica Rox home jersey and can get the jersey signed after the game. Kids are also welcome to run the bases after the game.
Fans are encouraged to get to the park early for the best chance at getting a St. Cloud Rox Baseballjersey, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
