Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers were victorious in their return home on Saturday night by defeating the Willmar Stingers 7-4 in Rochester, MN.
With the win the Honkers move to 2-1 in the second half of the Northwoods League season.
The Honkers bats continue to stay hot as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a leadoff single from Dakota Smith (Kansas), who would later score on a Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) RBI groundout.
Rightfielder Jordan Parr (Illinois) added to the 1-0 Honkers lead in the bottom of the second with his third homerun of the season. Parr finished his night 2 for 4 with the homerun, a double, and two runs.
After picking up a loss in his last start, Nick Dolksy (DMACC) tossed 4.0 quality innings on Saturday night and did not allow a run while striking out six Stingers. However, Dolsky fell one inning short of qualifying for the victory despite a strong performance.
With a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning, Trevor Podratz launched a deep homerun to right center field to make it 6-1. The homerun was Podratz's team-leading eighth of the season.
Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) came on in relief of Dolsky in the fifth inning and finished the game to earn the win and improve his record to 2-1. Millbrath allowed four earned runs in his 4.1 frames of work on six hits and three strikeouts.
Rochester shortstop Michael Lukkason had a great night at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Centerfielder Dakota Smith chipped in with a couple of hits and a run.
The Honkers (2-1, 17-21) and Stingers (1-2, 21-17) will play game two of a three-game set tomorrow, July 8th, in Rochester, MN at 1:05 PM. Right hander Kevin Johnson (Illinois) is set to start for Rochester and will face fellow righty Anthony Consiglio (Western Nevada). In four starts, Johnson is 0-1 with a 6.09 ERA. Consiglio is 0-2 with a 6.86 ERA in five starts.
