Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON, MA - RHP Joey Baker and new Rox RHP John Kelly limited the Quebec Capitales to just four hits while CF Brad Rosenblat had three hits for the Rox including a HR in an 8-1 victory over Quebec at Campanelli Stadium before 2,353 in attendance. Baker's win was his first since 2003 as he missed the 2004 season and most of 2005 with an injury, while Kelly pitched a rare game out of the pen, earning just the second save of his career and his first since 1998. Offensively, each Rox starter either drove home or scored at least one run, with Rosenblat along with 1B Francisco Lebron, who drove home two runs against his former team, leading the way. RF Benoit Emond was the only player for the Capitales with more than one hit. The Rox end a two-game losing streak with the win and improve to 12-17 in 2006.
Brockton scored three times against Quebec starter RHP Keith Dunn in the first frame. SS Eugene Julien led off with a walk, and 2B Mike Scanzano singled to put runners at the corners. 3B Jake Daubert ripped the first pitch he saw to left for a single, putting the Rox in front 1-0. Lebron drove home a run with his first hit in a Rox uniform, a double down the line, and C Jason Radwan plated the third run with an RBI groundout.
In the fifth, Lebron singled to left-center to make it 4-1 Brockton, and got caught in a rundown long enough for a second run to score on the play to give the Rox a 5-1 lead. LF Keith Brachold and Julien drove home runs with singles in the sixth inning to break the game open. Rosenblat's solo HR in the eighth inning was the first round- tripper for the Rox in over eight games and Rosenblat's third of the year, but his first since May 29th.
Baker allowed just one run on three hits in five innings, while Kelly gave up a single to the first batter he faced but no other hits while fanning four. The Rox look to keep the momentum going tomorrow when they face Quebec with RHP John Boker (3-1, 3.67 ERA) making the start against Quebec RHP Shawn Ryan (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
