Tornadoes blow past Pride, 8-1

(Nashua, NH, June 27, 2006) The Worcester Tornadoes handed the Nashua Pride their fifth straight loss with an 8-1 triumph on Tuesday evening before 1,092 at Historic Holman Stadium.

The Tornadoes (18-12) did all of their scoring in the third inning, taking advantage of three Nashua (11-19) errors, five hits and a pair of walks. Onix Mercado, Keith Beauregard and Lucas Taylor each knocked in a pair of runs during the uprising.

Nashua's only run was scored in the seventh inning when Ricardo Cordova, who doubled, came across on an infield out off the bat of Elliot Shea.

Worcester starter Matt Weagle (1-0) pitched five innings, allowing just three hits and striking out one for his first win of the season.

In his first professional start, Nashua starter Jack Creighton (0-1) worked into the third inning allowing the first four Tornadoes runs, all of them earned, on three hits, five walks and he struck out two.

The four-game series resumes Wednesday night at 7:05. It'll be righthander Reid Willett (2-1) on the mound for Worcester. Lefty Mark Hamilton (2-3) is scheduled for the Pride.

A portion from the proceeds of each ticket purchased for tomorrow evening's game will go to benefit the Trevor Palmer Fund. Palmer is young boy from Milford, NH suffering from Aplastic Anemia, a life-threatening bone marrow condition.

The Nashua Pride, entering their first year in the eight-team Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Historic Holman Stadium. Prior to joining the Can-Am League, the Pride played for eight seasons in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, winning the 2000 Atlantic League championship.
