Skyhawks top New Haven
June 27, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
The Sussex Skyhawks nearly salvaged the doubleheader and first place with a win in the nightcap. Unlike game one where 14 runs were scored and three balls left the park this was a pure pitchers duel going into the final inning as only three runs had been allowed between the two teams. New Haven starting pitcher Jarrett Stawarz pitched five and a third innings allowing only four hits and 2 unearned runs, but, had the bad luck of going against an equally impressive Brian Ford. Ford went six innings allowing one earned run to leaving to what he hoped was another victory on his record as he gave way to Skyhawks closer Julio Perez who couldn't finish the job. Perez allowed in three runs ripping the victory out of the Skyhawks grasp and propelling New Haven into first place.
