Rox offense comes through again in 10-5 win

BROCKTON, MA - For the second straight night, the Rox took an early first inning lead and ran away from the Quebec Capitales, beating the visitors 10-5 before 2,541at Campanelli Stadium. Each of the ten runs the Rox scored came across the plate with two outs. RHP John Boker earned his team-leading fourth win of the season with 6.2 innings on the hill, allowing just two runs on four hits. DH Kris Zacuto had a key two-run double for the Rox in the second, and 2B Mike Torres also drove home two runs with a pair of run-scoring singles. The Rox have scored 18 runs on 20 hits in the first two games of the series and improve with the win to 13-17 in 2006.

Facing Quebec RHP Shawn Ryan in the first, 1B Francisco Lebron ripped an RBI single to right to give the Rox an early 1-0 lead. For Lebron, the RBI was his third in the series against his former team. Later in the frame, C Jason Radwan drove home a run with a single and Zacuto plated two more with a double smoked to left-center field. Torres drove home a run with a two-out single in the third to make it 5-0 Rox.

In the seventh, the Rox scored five times against RHP Blair Lang. With two outs, DH Joe Hough drove home his first professional run with a single to left, misplayed by LF Nick Trainor, which allowed a second run to score on the play. Torres followed with his second RBI single of the night, and CF Brad Rosenblat along with LF Eugene Julien both had RBI doubles to cap the inning. The Capitales struck for three runs in the eighth, keyed by a two-out two-run single by RF Benoit Emond, who had two hits and has reached five times in the series with four hits. RHP Santos Gonzalez slammed the door in the eighth and ninth by retiring all four batters he faced.

Tomorrow the Rox send LHP Rolando Viera (2-3, 2.70 ERA) to the hill to face Quebec RHP Gabe Ribas (3-0, 2.04 ERA) at 7:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium. Viera fanned 12 batters in a five-hit complete- game shutout last Thursday, and has struck out 22 batters in his last two starts.
