
Rox Snap Honkers Win Streak

(Rochester, Minn.) - The defending champion St. Cloud Rox launched two home runs to propel them past the Rochester Honkers 11-1 Friday at Mayo Field. The Rox snapped a three-game losing streak to move to 10-10 in the second half and 26-30 overall. The loss snaps the Honkers five-game winning streak as they fall to 10-10 and 27-29. The five-game win streak tied the longest win streak of the year for Rochester.
St. Cloud got on the board scoring a run in the second. Ryland Kerr (Eastern Kentucky) singled up the middle to bring home a run and put the Rox up 1-0.
In the fourth, Landon Stephens (Miami Ohio) gave the Rox a 2-0 advantage hitting a sacrifice fly to deep right field to bring home a run.
The Rox tacked on to their lead in the fifth, Noah Hill (BYU) ripped his first home run of the season to put St. Cloud up 3-0.
Christian Robinson (Stanford) got the Honkers on the board in the fifth as he crushed a solo home run to right center field. For Robinson, it was his team-leading seventh home run of the year.
St. Cloud was able to rally for three runs in the sixth. Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas Pine Bluff), Stephens and Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) all drove in a run with a single to extend the Rox lead to 6-1.
The Rox piled on another three runs in the seventh. Connor Aube (Texas at Arlington) hammered a two-run home run to put the Rox up 8-1. Seymour capped off the scoring on a RBI ground out.
Hill extended the Rox lead in the ninth drawing a walk with the bases loaded to make the score 10-1 Rox. Kerr added one more run for St. Cloud as he singled to push the score to 11-1.
Honkers starting pitcher Drew Slade (Ripon) was tagged with his seventh loss of the season. Slade worked 5 1/3 innings and surrendered six runs on eight hits. Connor McCollum (Colorado Christian) tossed 1 2/3 innings in relief and gave up three runs on two hits. Casey Dunlap (Point Loma Nazarene) came in to pitch two innings giving up two runs on four hits.
Robinson finished the game going 2-for-4 and scored a run. For Robinson, it was his 12th multi-hit game of the year.
Rox starting pitcher Evan Johnson (Creighton) picked up his fourth win of the season, Johnson spun eight innings surrendering one run on three hits and struck out 11.
The Honkers are back at Mayo Field on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. start time against the Willmar Stingers. Cole Quintanilla (Texas) is scheduled to start for the Honkers, the right-hander has a 1-1 record and a 4.01 ERA. Matt Ornelas (Nova Southeastern) is scheduled to start for Willmar, Ornelas has posted a 0.71 ERA and a 3-0 record. Saturday is RCTC Night with Minnesota 97.5, the first 500 fans receive a RCTC stress baseball. Additionally, it is Bob the Bug Man "Swatter Series."
