Rox lose fourth straight

Brockton, MA (June 6, 2008) - The Brockton Rox lost for the fourth consecutive game on Friday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium in Atlantic City, falling 3-1 to Cecil Fielder's Atlantic City Surf.

Atlantic City improved to 9-6 on the season, propelled by a strong start from RHP Jim Wladyka, and 3.2 innings of scoreless relief from the bullpen. The Rox scored one run in the first inning against Wladyka, and he held the team to just two hits over the next 4.2 innings.

Meanwhile, Atlantic City capitalized on the few opportunities it had against Rox LHP Rolando Viera. Viera took the loss in the game, falling t0 1-2 on the season despite allowing just three runs over seven innings in a quality start. The Surf scored twice in the third inning on three hits, and once more in the fifth on a solo home run by CF Lucas Taylor. Viera received some defensive help as the Rox turned four double plays in the game.

The Rox had several quality opportunities to score in the game, but left five runners in scoring position, and grounded into three double plays. Surf relievers RHP Walker Whitley, and RHP Derek Duclose worked 4.2 scoreless innings to preserve the win for the starter Wladyka.
