Brockton Rox News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT-SS Mike Scanzano drove home the only run for the Rox with an RBI single in the eighth inning but was later thrown out at the plate to end the lone Rox scoring chance as New Haven County beat the Rox for the third straight night with a 3-1 final at Yale Field in West Haven, CT. The Rox have lost five straight games; they have been swept just twice this season. RHP Wayne Lundgren took the loss for the Rox, yielding three runs (two earned) in six innings. No player for the Rox had more than one hit. The Rox head to Little Falls, NJ for a three-game series with the New Jersey Jackals, as the Rox now sport a 43-39 overall record and a 19-17 mark in the second half.

Lundgren allowed an unearned run in the second inning as RF Orlando Encarnacion drove home the game's first run with a two-out double to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead. In the second, 3B Jeremy Terni knocked home the second New Haven County run with an RBI double. DH Derrick Gibson ripped a solo HR for the Cutters in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Rox were held in check by RHP Justin Knoff, who did not allow a run in seven innings on the hill. In the eighth against RHP Mark Comolli, CF Brad Rosenblat singled to lead off the frame. On at second with two outs, Rosenblat scored on Scanzano's run-scoring single to left. One batter later, LF Eugene Julien ripped a Comolli pitch off the left field wall. Scanzano headed for the plate, but was thrown out on a 7-6-2 relay to end the inning. LHP Cory Willey retired one batter in the ninth and RHP Andy Weimer picked up his third save of the series by retiring the final two Rox hitters.

Tomorrow the Rox send LHP Rolando Viera (8-6, 2.67 ERA) to the hill against New Jersey to try to stem the tide of the five-game losing streak. First pitch from Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
