New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ For the second consecutive night, the North Shore Spirit defeated the New Jersey Jackals by a final score of 2-1. The Jackals starting pitching was again phenomenal, but their offense obviously didn't bring their hitting shoes.

With the win, the Spirit completed the three-game sweep.

The Spirit offense turned on the switch in the bottom of the second inning against Raul Valdes. All with two outs, North Shore picked up an RBI single by Jon DeVries and an RBI double by Ryan Bethel to take a 2-0 lead.

It took the Jackals till the sixth to finally put up a run against Spirit starter Joey Siak. In the inning, the Jackals loaded the bases with no one out, but managed to score just one run on a ground ball double play off the bat of John Lindsey. It slashed the lead in half, but they would get no closer, as their offense again failed the starting pitcher. They wouldn't record another hit after the inning.

Joey Siak was sensational, while silencing New Jersey. Allowed just one run, none earned, on four hits, while striking out three. Kevin Fitzgerald pitched a perfect ninth for his 21st save of the year.

New Jersey's Raul Valdez suffered the tough luck loss. He allowed two earned runs, on six hits, while striking out seven and walking one. It marked the second time this season that Valdes lost a start after allowing just two earned runs.
