New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - The New Haven County Cutters (20-15, 45-35) finished off a three-game series sweep of the Brockton Rox (19-17, 43-39), Thursday night, with a 3-1 victory and extended their Wild Card lead over the Rox to 3.0 games with 11 to play in the regular season.

Cutters' starter RHP Justin Knoff (8-5) was outstanding in his 7.0 innings of work, allowing no runs and just four hits as he took the win.

A second inning RBI double from right fielder Orlando Encarnacion and a third inning RBI double from third baseman Jeremy Terni gave the Cutters an early 2-0 lead.

A tremendous moon shot solo home run from designated hitter Derrick Gibson (12) in the fifth inning staked the Cutters to a 3-0 advantage.

The Rox rallied in the eighth inning when centerfielder Brad Rosenblat singled to lead off the frame and scored on a two out single from shortstop Mike Scanzano, making it a 3-1 ballgame.

Rox' left fielder Eugene Julien followed with a long double into the left field corner that sent Scanzano around third base and headed for home. But a well executed relay play from Cutters' left fielder Horace Lawrence III to shortstop Chas Terni nailed Scanzano at the plate to end the threat and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Cutters' reliever RHP Andy Weimer took care of the final two outs of the game to record the save (17).

RHP Wayne Lundgren (2-5) started for the Rox and was effective, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strike outs in 6.0 innings.

Both Encarnacion and Lawrence collected two hits in the game as no Rox batter had more than one hit.

The Cutters head to Nashua, NH, on Friday to begin a four-game series with the Pride.

RHP Tim Keinath (7-4, 3.36 ERA) will take the start for the Cutters.
