St. Cloud Rox News Release

The St. Cloud Rox will look to avoid a sweep Wednesday morning after dropping a 4-3 contest Tuesday night to the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Port Arthur Stadium.

The game was a fast-moving pitcher's duel through five and a half innings, with Rox starter Billy Soule (Minnesota) and the Cats' Blake Fonfaro trading goose eggs. Thunder Bay broke the ice with a three run home run to left field by Cory Kay (Houston) in the bottom of the sixth.

The Rox tied the game in the top of the seventh. Nick Rau (Georgia Southern) hit a smash that was too hot to handle for shortstop Brett Kay (Illinois State). The bobble allowed Chris Paul (Cal) and Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) to scamper home and make the score 3-2.

With Rau on second base, Phil Imholte (St Cloud State) reached on an infield single to score the tying run in Rau. However, the Border Cats scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a Cory Kay bloop single.

The Rox are now 5-8 on the season, while the Border Cats improve to 6-8. Imholte and Rhine each had a pair of hits for the Rox while Rau picked up St. Cloud's only RBI of the game. The two teams finish their three game series at 10:00 am CST Wednesday.
