Bullfrogs Top Wisconsin Rapids 5-4
June 12, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Bullfrogs bounced back in Wisconsin Rapids on Monday, earning a 5-4 victory over the Rafters in a game filled with late inning drama.
Pitching was the story early on for Green Bay. Christian Cecilio got the start on the mound for the 'Frogs. He only gave up one run in the first, but had to exit due to a league rule that prevents pitchers from continuing beginning another inning after throwing 35 or more pitches in one frame.
He was relieved by Robb Woodcock (1-0), who went five and two thirds innings and gave up two runs and earned the win in an impressive relief appearance.
After LaCrosse took an early lead, the 'Frogs rallied in the second and pushed home a run when Alex Abrams scored on a Collin Shaw sacrifice fly.
The game remained tied until the top of the seventh, when Green Bay capitalized on two Rafter errors to take a 4-1 lead. Joel Klock drove home Kyle Sill on a single back up the middle for the first run of the inning. Klock scored when Justin Seager reached on an error, and Seager came around on a Mac Acker fielder's choice.
The Rafters didn't wait long to start their comeback attempt. After a leadoff double and an advancement to third on a wild pitch, Mike Jurgella came in to score on a Kyle Sill error. Colin Bray advanced to third on that play, and then came into score on an Alex Bacon sacrifice fly. This cut the Bullfrogs' lead to one run.
In the top of the eighth, Green Bay added one more as Nick Stein drove home Taylor Johnson on a double to left. Brandon Hohl scored on a Jurgella single for the Rafters in the bottom of the frame to once again cut Green Bay's lead to one, 5-4.
After a scoreless top of the ninth, Will Landsheft set the top of the Rafters order down in order to complete a five-out save, his first of the year. Green Bay defeated Wisconsin Rapids by a final of 5-4.
