Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - Walks and sloppy errors continue to plague the Rochester Honkers as they suffer a 13-3 defeat at the hands of the Waterloo Bucks on Tuesday night.
The Bucks outhit the Honkers seventeen to eight and have now outscored the home team 34-13 in the first two games of the series.
Rochester starter DJ Snelten (Minnesota) pitched 3.2 innings walked four batters and struck out five and was handed the loss to move his record to 0-2. Defensive miscues did not accommodate Snelten's performance and only one of his two runs allowed were earned.
It wasn't until the later innings that Waterloo started to really pour it on scoring two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, three in the eighth, and three in the ninth.
The Waterloo starter, Brock Hudgens (Charlotte), held the Honkers to just three runs in 6.1 innings, good enough to earn his first win of the 2012 season (1-0).
The Honkers made some noise in the bottom of the seventh but could only manage to push across one run after centerfielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) went down on strikes with a runner at third base and two outs to end the threat.
Jordan Parr (Illinois) went yard in the bottom of the fifth inning for his first homer of the season. Parr's twin brother Justin (Illinois) went 2 for 4 and made a spectacular play to rob Waterloo leadoff hitter Riley Good (UTSA) of extra bases in the top half of the ninth.
Honkers shortstop Michael Lukkason (Dakota Wesleyan) picked up a couple of hits in the leadoff spot.
Bucks centerfielder Peter Leonello (Long Island) finished 6 for 6 in the contest with three RBIs.
The Honkers will travel to Waterloo on Wednesday June 13th to complete the Bucks series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM. Rochester lefty starter Matt Kent (Texas A&M) will oppose Waterloo lefthander Micah Bryan (Charlotte). Kent is 1-0 this year with a 1.20 ERA in starts. Bryan is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA.
