St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - The St. Cloud Rox came up just short in a loss to the La Crosse Loggers on Thursday night in front of a packed crowd at the Rock Pile.
The Rox fell to the Loggers 4-3 in the final game of the two-game series between the two teams despite a late-game comeback attempt.
Trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, St. Cloud scored two runs off of a Bobby Seymour two-RBI single and had the game-tying run 90 feet away, but ultimately wasn't able to bring that tying run home.
St. Cloud got on the board in the game in the third inning, when Sean Ross (San Diego State) scored on a balk by La Crosse starting pitcher, Cam Baumann.
Seymour, who had one plate appearance in the game as a pinch hitter, finished with one hit and two RBI to lead the Rox. Ross finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in his second game since arriving to St. Cloud a few days ago. Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) and Michael Borst (Minot State) each added a hit for the Rox.
Kyle Boser (St. Cloud State) started the game on the mound for St. Cloud, pitching 5.1 innings and getting tagged with the loss despite a solid performance in his second outing of the year. He gave up just four hits, three runs, one walk and struck out seven.
Sean Hupp (USC-Upstate) pitched 2.2 shutout innings in relief for the Rox, giving up just one hit and striking out three. Will Warren (Southeastern Louisiana) finished the game on the hill, pitching the final inning.
St. Cloud opens up a two-game series with the Rochester Honkers at 7:05 p.m. Friday night in Rochester, before returning home on Saturday to kick off a three-game homestand. Saturday's game against Rochester, which will begin at 6:05 p.m. at the Rock Pile, will be Rox Pint Glass Giveaway presented by Miller Lite, where the first 500 fans 21 and older will receive a 2017 Northwoods League championship pint glass when entering the stadium.
