Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wisc. - The Green Bay offense tallied six runs on six consecutive hits with two outs in the seventh inning, powering the Bullfrogs (4-6) to an epic 6-1 comeback victory over the visiting Lakeshore Chinooks (5-5) from Joannes Stadium Thursday evening. Bullfrog catcher Austin Bates (Freshman, Chipola College) delivered the clutch two-RBI single with two out and two strikes to get the offensive surge started.
The Bullfrogs commence a four-game Michigan road trip this weekend, starting tomorrow night for a match-up with the Kalamazoo Growlers from Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo, Mich. First pitch is slated for a 6:05 p.m. CT start. Fans can tune in to the live radio broadcast on WOCO (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Bates finished 1-for-4 at the dish with his two RBIs on the crucial base-hit. Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) went 2-for-2 with a RBI single, while Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) also drove home a pair of runs in a 1-for-5 effort.
Lakeshore was held to just four hits in the contest. The Chinooks posted their lone run in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sebastian Holte-Mancera to put the visitors in front 1-0.
In the home half of the seventh, the Bullfrogs loaded the bases with nobody out. Green Bay struck out swinging twice to put two quick outs on the board with Bates coming up to the plate. Down to the final strike of the inning, Bates blooped a two-run single into left field to put the Bullfrogs ahead 2-1 on one swing of the bat.
One batter later, Gonzalez followed with a two-run single of his own to stretch the advantage out to 4-1. Back-to-back RBI base-knocks by Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) and Maris brought home two additional tallies to extend the lead out to 6-1 and complete the exciting two-out rally.
Green Bay relief pitcher Brody Curtiss (Freshman, Augustana) got the win, improving to 1-0. Lakeshore starter Austin Jones took the loss, falling to 0-2. Bullfrogs starting pitcher Jason Applegate (Junior, Villanova) tossed a gem in his first start and fourth overall appearance this summer. Applegate went six full innings, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts. The VU Wildcat brings his season strikeout total up to 14. Green Bay reliever Tyler Rosas (Junior, Dixie State) finished off the solid pitching efforts with two shut-out innings, one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
