Duluth Huskies News Release

The Duluth Huskies took advantage of another fast start and never looked back, downing the Waterloo Bucks 14-3 on Wednesday night at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo. The win was Duluth's fifth in a row and moves the Huskies into a tie for first place with Rochester atop the North Division standings.

Duluth loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the third inning. Chris Gilbody got Duluth on the scoreboard with an RBI single, setting the table for General MacArthur who blasted a grand slam over the left field fence. MacArthur came around to score later in the inning, putting Duluth ahead by six runs.

Hunter Bigge reached on error to lead off the fifth and scored when Cade Edwards singled to center. Waterloo's best chance to rally came in the bottom of the fifth when the Bucks loaded the bases with no outs for the top of the lineup. Ryan Gonzalez drove in two runs with a single and Joe Aeilts picked up his first RBI to bring the Bucks within four runs but a strikeout ended the threat.

Bigge and Augie Isaacson came around to score in the top of the seventh without the benefit of a hit, giving the Huskies a 9-3 lead. MacArthur drove in his fifth run of the night with nobody out in the eighth. Edwards, Isaacson and Tony Monroy picked up RBIs before the Bucks could get out of the inning. Sam Hawley scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth and Mike Munson struck out the side in the home half.

MacArthur and Edwards each recorded three hits and combined for eight RBIs to lead the Huskies offensively. Mirchell O'Connor (1-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of work while striking out six. The Duluth bullpen was dominant as Munson and Levi Shandrew combined to toss four scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out seven.

Duluth is now 6-3 on the season while Waterloo drops to 2-7 overall. The two teams will finish their two-game series on Thursday at 6:35 pm.
