Rox End Season with 5-2 Victory over Mankato

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Mankato MoonDogs were back in action at Joe Faber Field for one final game of the 2013 season with the Rox defeating Mankato 5-2.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Rox' Clay Williamson doubled on two outs to keep the inning going. Eric Loxtercamp would follow with a single to score Williamson taking the Rox to a 1-0 lead.

St. Cloud and Mankato went three up and three down for the next two innings for the Rox to hold on to their 1-0 lead.

Starting pitcher for the Rox Reese Gregory, retired his 11th straight batter in the top of the seventh as the Mankato offense came up empty for St. Cloud to stay ahead 1-0.

Alex McRae came into the game in the eighth inning to relieve starter Reese Gregory and held the MoonDogs to three up and three down in the inning.

It was a game of defense by both teams until the bottom of the eighth as a pitch on one out hit Williamson. Loxtercamp then singled moving Williamson to scoring position. Back-to-back doubles by Adam Martin and Chris Paul down the right field line extended the Rox lead over Mankato to 4-0. Paul moved to third on a groundout for the second out of the inning but that was not all for the Rox as a single by Bradley Strong scored Paul for a 5-0 lead.

The MoonDogs were able to put up two runs in the top of the ninth as Timothy Arakawa doubled to the right center wall making it a 5-2 game. St. Cloud held Mankato to only those two runs ending the 2013 season with a 5-2 victory.

Earning the final win on the mound for the Rox was Reese Gregory pitching seven innings and moved his record on the season to 3-2. McRae and Evan Wolf each pitched an inning in the Rox victory.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Reese Gregory. Gregory pitched seven innings for the Rox as the starting pitcher allowing only one hit and striking out six batters faced for the win.

The Rox had a great year and played in front of 55,457 fans during the 2013 season here at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. So not just on Fan Appreciation Night but every night the Rox thank you for your dedication and support during the 2013 season.

Your 2013 St. Cloud Rox MVP is Chris Paul. Paul was recognized before the game Sunday night receiving his MVP plaque. Paul has had an outstanding season this year for the Rox, appearing in 67 games and batting .299 (81-for-271) including 10 doubles, two triples, and four home runs. He reached base an unprecedented 14 straight times, is tied for first on the team in game appearances, leads in at-bats (271), second in hits (81), second in home runs (4), and second on the team in RBIs (37). Paul was named to the Northwoods League Big Dreams Showcase North Division roster and has been named to the Northwoods League Postseason All-Star Team.

The St. Cloud Rox end their 2013 campaign Sunday night against the Mankato MoonDogs with a 36-34 overall record and a 22-13 second half record.
