
Blue Anchors Top Thunder Bay in Extras to End Season

Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Thunder Bay, Ontario-The Alexandria Blue Anchors topped the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a score of 15-10 in 11 innings to end the 2013 season on Sunday. The Blue Anchors ended the season with a 24-46 overall record.
The Blue Anchors led off the game with a run in the top of the first off of Border Cats starter Anthony Pastrana. Kris Goodman reached base on a walk, and then scored on a Shea Molitor double to make it a 1-0 game.
The Blue Anchors would add to their lead in the top of the 2nd. Dalton Leuschke reached base on a walk to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a Andrew Mulato single. Both Mulato and Leuschke would score on a Border Cats error, giving the Blue Anchors a 3-0 lead. After reaching on the Border Cats error, Tyler Curtis would score on a stolen base to make it a 4-0 game.
Thunder Bay cut into the lead in the bottom of the 2nd off of Blue Anchors starter Tyler Beck. Phillip Lyons reached base on a single, and would score on a Dylan Goodwin single to make it a 4-1 game.
The Border Cats would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth. Ty Stetson would reach base on a walk, and would score on a Dylan Becker double to make it a 4-2 game.
Thunder Bay would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Carter McEachern doubled to lead off the inning, and would score on a Becker double to make it a 4-3 game. After Dominic Reed came in to pitch for the Blue Anchors, Becker would score on a Jason Vosler single to tie the game. Lyons would again single to move Vosler to second, and Adam Collins would hit a three-run home run to give the Border Cats a 7-4 lead.
The Blue Anchors would respond in the top of the eighth off of Thunder Bay reliever Cameron Wood. Tim Cusick led off the inning with a walk, and then moved to second on a Michael Barash walk. Leuschke would single to load the bases, and then Mulato would double to score Cusick and Barash to cut the Thunder Bay lead to 7-6. Derec Olson came in to pitch for the Border Cats, but Leuschke would score on a Curtis sacrifice fly to tie the game. Jake Bergren was hit by a pitch, and both Bergren and Mulato would score on a Goodman double to give the Blue Anchors a 9-7 lead.
Thunder Bay would regain the lead off of Alexandria reliever Andy Johnson. McEachern would reach on a walk, and advanced to 2nd on a Stetson walk. McEachern would then score on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 9-8. Becker would then score on a Tyler Duplantis single to tie the game, and Duplantis would score on a Vosler triple to give the Border Cats a 10-9 lead.
Down to their last out in the top of the 9th inning, the Blue Anchors would tie the game. Leuschke would reach base on an error, and advance to 3rd on a Mulato single. Curtis would then single to tie the game at 10, and send the final game of the season into the extra innings.
The Blue Anchors would explode for five runs in the top of the 11th. Barash would lead off the inning with a single off of Thunder Bay reliever Daniel Stoney, and advanced to second after Leuschke was hit by a pitch. Both runners would move on a Mulato out, and Curtis was walked to load the bases. Ben Allen would then drive in Barash and Leuschke on a single to give the Blue Anchors a 12-10 lead. Bergren would the single to score Curtis and make it a 13-10 game. After Goodman was walked to load the bases, Mason Schiff came in to pitch for Daniel Stoney. Allen would score on a Molitor walk to make it a 14-10 game. Bergren would score on a wild pitch to give the Blue Anchors five runs in the 11th inning, and give Alexandria the win.
Johnson (2-4) picked up the win for Alexandria, going three innings, giving up three runs on five hits, and striking out three Border Cats. Beck pitched 6.1 inning, giving up four runs on eight hits. In 2/3 of an inning, Reed gave up three runs on three hits. Ben Allen pitched the eleventh for the Blue Anchors, giving up zero hits on zero runs.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game-Dalton Leuschke (LF)-The Des Moines Area Community College product scored four runs in the game, including the game-tying run to give the Blue Anchors the win.
Notes-Every player in the Blue Anchors lineup got a hit, and all but one player scored a run...Goodman stole his sixteenth base of the season...In three games, Allen batted .545, going six for eleven...Four players hit doubles for the Blue Anchors on Sunday...The Blue Anchors ended the season with a 24-46 record, including wins in three of their final four games.
