
Blue Anchors Fall to Border Cats 18-9

Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Thunder Bay, Ontario-The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a score of 18-9 on Saturday. The loss drops the Anchors to 13-22 in the 2nd half and 23-46 overall.
The Blue Anchors started the game off with two runs in the top of the first off of Border Cats starter Chris Kerwood. Jake Bergren led off the game with a walk. Kris Goodman then walked, and both runners scored on a Michael Barash single.
Thunder Bay would respond with three runs in the bottom of the first off of Blue Anchors starter Travis Famias. Ty Stetson walked, moved to second on a Dylan Becker single, and would score on a Tyler Duplantis single. Becker and Duplantis would later score on an Adam Collins double to give the Border Cats a 3-2 lead.
The Blue Anchors would tie the game in the third inning. Andrew Mulato walked, and then scored on a Kris Goodman single to tie the game at 3.
The Border Cats would add two runs in the third inning. Collins hit a solo home run, and after reaching base on a double, Dylan Goodwin scored on a Scott Held double to make the score 5-3 in favor of Thunder Bay.
The Blue Anchors would tie the game once again in the top of the 4th. Mulato would reach on an error. Tyler Curtis then singled, and both scored on a Jake Bergren single to tie the game at 5.
The Blue Anchors would take the lead in the 5th inning. Tim Cusick was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, and would score on an Andrew Mulato double to give the Blue Anchors a 6-5 lead.
The Blue Anchors would add three runs in the top of the 6th inning. After Goodman reached base on a fielder's choice, he would score on a Shea Molitor single. Cusick then singled, and both Molitor and Cusick would score on a Dalton Leuschke single to make the score 9-5 in favor of Alexandria.
However, Thunder Bay would respond in the bottom of the 6th off of Blue Anchors pitcher Ben Larpenter. Carter MeEachern led off the inning with a single, and would move to second on a Stetson single. Both would score on a Duplantis double to make the score 9-7. Duplantis would score on a Phillip Lyons single, and Lyons would score on a Collins single. Collins would add a run on a Held sacrifice fly to make the score 10-9 in favor of Thunder Bay.
Thunder Bay would add two runs in the bottom of the seventh off of Jake Hanzalik. Stetson was hit by a pitch, and moved to second on a Becker single. Stetson would later score on a Blue Anchors error, and Becker would score on a Collins sacrifice fly to make it a 12-9 Thunder Bay lead.
Thunder Bay would add insurance in the bottom of the 8th. Held would lead off the inning with a single, and would advance to second on a Shane Trattles walk. Both would score on a Stetson double to make it a 14-9 game. Stetson would score on a Becker sacrifice fly to give the Border Cats a 15-9 lead. Duplantis would then single, and advance on a Lyons walk. Duplantis would then move to third on a Collins single, and would score on a Goodwin walk. Held would then single to drive in Lyons and Collins to make the final score 18-9.
In his first appearance, Famias pitched 3 innings, giving up five runs on six hits. Larpenter (0-1) would take the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in three innings. Hanzalik would come in and pitch two innings, giving up eight runs on six hits.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game-Andrew Mulato (RF)-The Michigan State product went two for four in the game, scoring two runs and driving in a run as well.
