Brockton Rox News Release
Atlantic City, NJ (July 17, 2007) --Atlantic City DH Rob Fischer hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the second straight night as the Surf scored 14 unanswered runs to beat the Rox 14-3 at Bernie Robbins Stadium in Atlantic City, NJ. Back-to-back homeruns by 1B Francisco Lebron and C Jason Radwan in the first inning put the Rox up 3-0 after a half inning, but the Rox managed just two LF John Allen singles the rest of the way. The Rox have allowed 27 runs on 28 hits in the last two games and 41 runs on 43 hits in the last three games, all losses. They are 20-28 overall and 0-2 in the second half.
The Rox started hot against LHP Brian Rodaway. LF Jeremy Coronado led off the game and was hit by a pitch on his right arm and forced to leave the game with an injury, replaced by PR Ryan Sickles. With one out, Lebron hit a two-run blast, a towering shot over the left- field wall. One batter later, Radwan smoked a ball over the left- field fence to make it 3-0. Those three runs were the sum total of the Rox offense.
RHP Mike McTamney started for the Rox and allowed a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. The Surf tied the game at three in the third on a Fischer double, and took the lead on a throwing error by Radwan. Atlantic City never looked back. They scored in six of their last seven innings. The eighth inning was disastrous for the Rox. Manager Chris Miyake, SS Fredy De La Cruz, and PH Kyle George were all ejected, and the Surf scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Fischer's blast came in the inning as did a solo HR by RF Rico Santana.
The Rox play the Surf at 11:05 AM on Wednesday morning, sending LHP Rolando Viera (4-4, 3.46 ERA) to the hill against RHP Ben Thurmond (6-3, 6.17 ERA).
