New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals, at least for one night, appeared to snap out of the funk that has plagued them over the past week and a half. Solid starting pitching and timely heading helped the Jackals edge the Grays 6-2, evening the series at a game apiece.
Isaac Pavlik was on the hill for the Jackals and demoted his previous struggles to a distant memory as he made the Grays hitters look clueless at the plate. Through six innings of work Pavlik struck out eight and allowed just two earned runs.
For the second straight game the New Jersey Jackals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Grays threatened in the top of the third by loading the bases with two outs. Center fielder Marcus Lewis ripped a single to right, scoring designated hitter Sean Gamble. Third baseman Ben Tinius tried to score from second but was thrown out in plenty of time by Jackals right fielder Francisco Leandro. Although one run did score, a major threat was averted and that would be all for the Grays offense
In the bottom of the third, with the game tied 1-1, Jackals second baseman Zack Smithlin doubled to lead off the inning. First baseman Clyde Williams took the first pitch he saw over the right field wall, giving New Jersey a 3-1 lead. Designated hitter Sandy Madera took the next pitch from Grays starter Everett Stull well over the left center field wall, giving New Jersey back-to-back home runs and a 4-1 lead.
Second baseman Joe Mihalics added an RBI double later in the inning, scoring third baseman Wilton Veras. Mihalics finished the game 3-4 with a double, triple, and RBI. He fell just a home run short of the cycle.
Sandy Madera was at it again in the fourth inning, taking another first pitch from Stull over the left field wall for his second home run of the game.
Pavlik was the winner of the ball game, defeating Stull of the Grays.
