Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Tornadoes committed four errors and managed to score just one run for the second straight night, as they fell below the .500 mark for the first time since June 8th with a 8-1 setback to the North Shore Spirit on Tuesday night.
The Spirit set the tone for the night by taking advantage of two Worcester errors and two more misplays to score four runs (three earned) in the 1st inning off Mike Meagher (3-5), who deserved better. Meagher allowed just one more unearned run through his five innings of work, but that was more than enough for the Spirit. The only Tornadoes run scored on a line-drive solo home run by Andrew Wishy to left-center leading off the 2nd inning. It was Wishy's team-high 6th longball and 35th RBI of the season. North Shore added three insurance runs (two earned) off Chris Shank in the 6th and 7th innings to put the game away.
Worcester has now scored a total of two runs in their last 28 innings. The Spirit have totaled 13 runs and 28 hits through the first two games of the series. Spirit lefty Joey Siak (5-2) picked up the win with 5.2 solid innings of work and Meagher (3-5) didn't pitch poorly, but took the loss. The defeat drops the Tornadoes below the .500 mark on the season (24-25) for the first time since June 8th, when they were 7-8. Worcester will be right back at it on Wednesday night, as they send righty Matt Weagle to the mound seeking the team's first win of the second half. he will be opposed by Spirit righty Dennis Robinson, coming out of the bullpen to make his first start of the season for North Shore. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
