Rox' Adam Martin Hits Walk-Off Single to Win 4-3

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Alexandria Blue Anchors kicked off a two-game series in St. Cloud Friday night. The Rox came away with the win in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single for a 4-3 victory.

The Rox took a 1-0 lead right away in the bottom of the first. Tim Colwell led off the inning with a single and then stole second as Daniel Comstock was up to bat with one out on the board. Comstock was walked on five pitches and with two outs a single by Chris Paul would score Colwell for the lead.

St. Cloud would hold onto a 1-0 lead until the top of the fifth when the Blue Anchors put up two runs on a single and a ground out to the Rox shortstop taking a 2-1 lead.

Alexandria held St. Cloud to three up and three down in the bottom of the inning taking their lead and then extending it in the top of the sixth to 3-1 off a double by Albert Bauer.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Blake Headley got things going for the Rox with a single. Headley then moved to second off a single by Colwell with one out on the board. Clay Williamson followed with a single loading the bases on one out for the Rox. With two outs Luke Weber posted a two-run single to tie the game up 3-3 against the Blue Anchors.

Reese Gregory was on the mound in the ninth facing three batters at which he struck out two to keep a 3-3 tie going into the bottom of the ninth. Headley again got the bats going for the Rox hitting a single but a double play would then leave the bases empty with two outs. Williamson kept the inning alive with a single and then stole second. Comstock earned a walk on six pitches to put two runners on base. With two runners on and two outs it was Adam Martin's chance to keep it alive and that he did with a walk-off single scoring Williamson for a 4-3 victory over the Blue Anchors.

Starting on the mound for the Rox was Eric Nyquist as he pitched 5.1 innings and recorded six strikeouts. Also seeing action was Michael Healey for 1.2 innings, John Oltman for one innings, and the Rox winning pitcher Reese Gregory for one inning as well. Gregory moves his record to 2-2 on the season with the win.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Adam Martin. Martin came into the game in the top of the eighth inning as he went 1-for-1, which was his walk-off single to win the game for the Rox.

The St. Cloud Rox (24-27, 10-6 Second Half) the Alexandria Blue Anchors will be back in action Saturday for the Rox final home game of their home stand. Game time is slated for 6:05 p.m. from Joe Faber Field.

The Rox final game will include Ram's Grand Slams and Body Slams presented by Ram Trucks and Brandl Motors. The American Wresting Federation (AWF) will have a post-game event outside of Joe Faber Field for all fans to watch.
