Blue Anchors Fall to Rox in Final At-Bat

St. Cloud, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors had a lead going into the last third of the game but lost in the bottom of the ninth to the St. Cloud Rox 4-3 at Joe Faber Field. Alexandria is now 7-9 in the second half and 17-33 on the season.

St. Cloud grabbed the lead against Tyler Beck in the first inning. Tim Cowell singled to start the game and stole second base. After a one-out walk to Daniel Comstock, Cowell went to third on a fly out to right field. A single through the infield by Chris Paul scored Comstock making the score 1-0.

The Blue Anchors rallied in the fifth to take the lead versus Rox starter Eric Nyquist. Ryan Blanchard singled to start the frame and went to third on a Michael Barash double. A single into centerfield by Keegan Dale scored Blanchard and tie the score at one. Tyler Curtis then grounded into a double play allowing Barash to score and put the Anchors ahead 2-1.

Alexandria added on in the sixth. Andrew Sohn hit a one-out single and came around to score when Albert Baur hit a double into the right-center gap giving the Blue Anchors a 3-1 advantage.

After settling down, Beck ran into trouble again in the seventh. Blake Headley, Colwell and Clay Williamson all singled with one out to load the bases. Comstock struck out for the second out of the frame but a single by Luke Weber knotted the score at three.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Williamson singled on a line-drive off the pitcher Scott Sanderson and Jose Cardona came in to get the final out of the inning. Williamson stole second and Comstock drew a walk. With two on and two out, Adam Martin hit a walk-off single to right bringing home Williamson and give St. Cloud the 4-3 win.

Beck finished the night with 6.2 innings pitched allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with three punch outs. Taking the loss was Sanderson (2-2) pitching two innings giving up a run on two hits and a walk. Cardona pitched to just two batters and allowed a walk and a hit.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Tyler Beck (SP) - Beck delivered a quality start and pitched well enough to deserve the win. The game lowered his ERA down to 5.07 on the year.
