Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (25-17) suffered their third straight loss with a 9-7 decision against the Nashville Sounds (16-26) in game four of their current five game series on Sunday afternoon at Dell Diamond. E-Train RF Yordan Alvarez moved back into a tie for most home runs in Minor League Baseball after belting his 18th of the season in the sixth inning.
Round Rock LHP Reymin Guduan (0-1, 3.00) took the loss after surrendering four runs, all of which were unearned, on two hits in a 0.2 inning relief appearance. Nashville LHP Zac Curtis (1-0, 6.63) secured his first win of the season after striking out two Express batters in 1.1 innings of relief.
Round Rock got the back-and-forth contest started with a Taylor Jones leadoff single followed by an RBI triple smoked off the bat of DH Kyle Tucker. Nashville quickly answered back the next inning as LF Carlos Tocci and 2B Nolan Fontana notched back-to-back singles prior to a Zach Granite fielder's choice that eliminated Fontana at second base. An ensuing CF Delino DeShields double sent both runners home.
The Sounds doubled their run total in the fourth, starting with a 3B Patrick Wisdom walk that eventually turned into a run on an RBI single courtesy of RF Hunter Cole. The next at-bat, Tocci added another run via a sacrifice fly that gave Nashville a 4-1 lead.
After a quiet pair of innings, Express CF Drew Ferguson sent a two-run longball into the left field berm, scoring 2B Alex De Goti, who previously jumped abroad on a Sounds' fielding error. One out later, Alvarez's red-hot bat came through once again as he smoked a no-doubter home run that leveled the score at four.
The E-Train broke the tie in the eighth when Sounds RHP Jake Lemoine walked Jones and Alvarez after surrendering a single to SS Myles Straw. With the bases loaded, Tucker converted with a two-run RBI double. Curtis then allowed back-to-back walks, the latest of which scored Jones to extend the lead to 7-4.
Nashville ultimately spoiled the fun in the ninth, when Wisdom and Cole led the Sounds to victory with a pair of homers that totaled five runs. After C Adam Moore reached base via a fielding error, SS Eli White singled prior to a booming three-run shot off the bat of Wisdom. Following a walk to Davidson, RHP Brendan McCurry relieved Guduan, surrendering a two-run homer to Cole that pushed the final score to 9-7.
The Express aim to snap a three-game losing streak as they close out their series with the Sounds on Monday night. Round Rock RHP Brady Rodgers (4-0, 3.22) is set to start opposite Nashville RHP Ronald Herrera (4-0, 15.26). First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
