Express Claim 7-4 Victory Over Space Cowboys on Opening Day

Round Rock opened the 2026 season on the road against the Sugar Land Cowboys, winning 7-4.

Sugar Land jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a home run in the top of the first by CF Zach Cole. Sugar Land added another run in the second after LF CJ Alexander singled to left field, sending 1B Cavan Biggio around from second, extending their advantage to 2-0.

The E-Train responded with three runs in the top of the third. RF Alejandro Osuna led off the inning with a double, and 1B Jonah Bride followed with a walk. 2B Justin Foscue added a single to load the bases. DH Trevor Hauver drew a walk to score Osuna. SS Cam Cauley recorded his first career AAA RBI to tie the game, and LF Aaron Zavala doubled to knock in a run and give the Express a 3-2 lead.

RHP Peyton Gray struck out four of the five batters in 1.2 IP as the first man out of the bullpen. LHP Austin Gomber followed with a scoreless fifth inning in his Round Rock debut.

Sugar Land tied the game in the sixth after 3B Shay Whitcomb squeezed an infield single to score SS Riley Unroe from third.

In the top of the seventh, the Express loaded the bases, and Zavala hit a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game, giving the Express another lead. The Space Cowboys quickly knotted the game back up in the bottom of the seventh with a home run by DH Carlos Perez, to make it four apiece.

After walks from C Willie MacIver and Osuna to start the eighth, 1B Jonah Bride launched a three-run home run for a 7-4, E-Train advantage.

RHP Josh Sborz and RHP Luis Curvelo tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings to shut the door for the Express, securing their first win of the 2026 season.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

OPENING DAY NERVES: The Express snapped a four-year losing streak, earning their first Opening Day win since 2021. Their last road Opening Day victory came on April 7, 2016, against the Iowa Cubs.

CALLING CAULEY: SS Cam Cauley shined in his AAA debut, reaching base three times on two hits, while drawing a walk and driving in a run.

BRIDE BLAST: 1B Jonah Bride launched a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give Round Rock their first win of the season. The first baseman went 2-4 with a walk, a strikeout, three RBIs and two runs in his Express debut.
