Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake Bees swept an afternoon twin bill against the Las Vegas Aviators on Sunday.
Matt Thaiss hit a first inning grand slam to give the Bees an early 4-0 lead in game one and the Bees never looked back, cruising to a 9-2 win. For the Bees it was their fifth grand slam of the season and the 100th in franchise history. Salt Lake launched three homers on the day with Luis Rengifo and Jarrett Parker joining Thaiss. Nick Tropeano (1-1) went five innings, giving up two runs to earn the victory as the Salt Lake starter with reliever Adrian De Horta firing two scoreless innings of relief to finish the game.
After a two-hour delay between games, the Bees bats picked right up where they left off scoring five runs in the first inning and held on to a 6-4 victory. Salt Lake batted around in the first frame with Jarrett Parker, Kaleb Cowart and Brennon Lund bringing in the runs on RBI singles. Thaiss would score Lund in the fourth to account for the other run in the Salt Lake win. Jaime Barria picked up the win with a complete game, lasting all seven innings while striking out five. With the doubleheader sweep the Bees have now won eight of their last nine games, including three of four games in the last 24 hours.
The Bees and Aviators will finish the five-game series on Monday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Andrew Heaney will get the start on the mound for the Bees on a Major League rehab assignment.
