Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders held the Amarillo Sod Poodles hitless after the second inning on Thursday, pulling away for a 7-1 win at Riders Field.
Ryan Garcia (1-3) allowed a home run to Ryan Bliss to open the game, but did not allow another run in five innings. Garcia retired the final 13 batters he faced.
Frisco (16-19) has won the first three games of the series against Amarillo (15-21).
Triston Polley replaced Garcia in the sixth inning and recorded two scoreless innings, followed by an inning each from Michael Brewer and Theo McDowell. The RoughRiders bullpen has allowed just one run in the first three games of the series.
In the first inning, the RoughRiders equaled the Sod Poodles with a leadoff home run of their own. Aaron Zavala tied the game on his homer to left field, followed by a two-run home run later in the inning by Nick Tanielu. Frisco tallied four runs in the first off Amarillo starter Jeff Bain (0-2).
Thomas Saggese extended the lead to 5-1 with a solo home run in the third inning, part of his three-hit night. Neither team scored in the next four innings, until Dustin Harris and Trevor Hauver both doubled in the eighth inning, plus an RBI single by Liam Hicks.
Frisco's starting pitchers this series - Tekoah Roby, Jack Leiter and Garcia - have struck out 22 hitters with just three walks allowed, posting a 3.12 ERA.
Thursday was the second game this year that the RoughRiders allowed a first-inning leadoff home run to Ryan Bliss and then held Amarillo scoreless the rest of the game. The other game was April 27 in Amarillo, a 5-1 Frisco win.
The fourth game of the six-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday, May 19 at Riders Field. RHP Owen White (1-0, 3.73 ERA) will start for Frisco, while RHP Luke Albright (2-2, 5.74 ERA) takes the ball for Amarillo.
