Springfield, MO - After getting blown out on Tuesday, the Frisco RoughRiders got even with an 8-1 win against the 1st-Half North Division Champion Springfield Cardinals before 2,694 fans at Hammons Field on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless opening inning by both Cardinals RHP Matt Pearce (L, 0-1), in his Double-A debut, and Frisco LHP Jack Snodgrass (W, 2-0), the RoughRiders (18-28, 56-59) cracked the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning. 3B Luis Marte opened the inning with a single, followed by a free pass from RF Alexeis Bell. A fielder's choice hit into by 1B Edwin Garcia retired Bell at second but moved Marte to third, putting runners at the corners with one away. After a strikeout, SS Alberto Triunfel pulled a two-out RBI single to shallow left field, bringing in Marte for the 1-0 Frisco lead.
The Cardinals (22-23, 63-52) battled it back even right away, plating one in the bottom of the second against Snodgrass. With one down, C Jesse Jenner chopped a double through the left side. One out later, LF Vaughn Bryan lined a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield, bringing in Jenner from second base to tie the game, 1-1.
Frisco, though, pulled right back in front in the top of the third. With one down, DH Carson Blair worked a walk, before moving to second on a single from CF Joe Jackson. Marte then blooped an RBI base hit to shallow left field, bringing in Blair from second base to lift the RoughRiders back in front, 2-1.
The RoughRiders then blew the game open with a six-run rally in the top of the fifth inning. Jackson led off with a solo home run, before RF Alexeis Bell worked a walk one out later to get a runner back on. With one on and one down, LHP Chandler Hawkins took over on the mound, but started his outing with a walk to 1B Edwin Garcia. C Kellin Deglan then pulled a three-run shot to right field, opening the advantage to 6-1. Triunfel followed the long-ball with a walk, before 2B Isiah Kiner-Falefa reached with a single. Both runners raced home on a two-run double by LF Eduard Pinto to left-center field, increasing the Frisco lead to 8-1.
Cardinals RHP Corey Baker took over for the seventh and posted a scoreless inning, before two shutout frames from RHP Chris Perry to keep Frisco at eight runs.
However, the RoughRiders countered with scoreless relief from RHP Luke Jackson in the seventh and eighth, followed by a scoreless ninth by RHP Joe Filomeno to close the 8-1 win for Frisco.
