Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Naturals faced deficits of 4-0, 4-2, 5-2 and 5-4 with the later disadvantage holding as Corpus Christi evened the three-game series on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field. Northwest Arkansas (53-63/24-22) never found a way over the hump; but remain in first place of the Texas League North Division.

Corpus Christi (69-48/22-24) plated four runs in the second inning off starter, Ashton Goudeau, and ran the right-hander from the ballgame after just two innings of work. Goudeau (4-12, 5.59) tossed 2.0 innings with the first frame being perfect, allowing all four runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk in the ephemeral outing.

Northwest Arkansas fought back with a two-run third frame. Alfredo Escalera and Frank Schwindel recorded back-to-back doubles off Hooks' starter, Kent Emanuel, and cut the margin to 4-1. Two batters later, Schwindel scampered home on a centerfield-single by Mauricio Ramos and made it a two-run game.

The Hooks added a fifth run in the fourth inning off reliever, Eric Stout, extending the home team's edge to 5-2. The single run in the fourth inning was the lone tally surrendered by Stout who fired 3.0 innings, scatter four hits, walked two and struck out one. Northwest Arkansas pulled within a run in the sixth frame.

With Emanuel still on the hill, Ryan O'Hearn had a check-swing dribbler up the third base line, going away from the defensive infield shift. Two batters later, Zane Evans smacked his first career triple to plate O'Hearn from first base, making it a 5-3 game. Evans came home a pitch later on a scoring fly ball off the bat of Humberto Arteaga, trimming the Hooks' lead to 5-4. But that's all the close the Naturals got.

Miguel Almonte tossed 2.0 innings of one-hit baseball and struck out one while Reid Redman fanned two batters throwing a perfect eighth inning.

The Naturals look for the series win tomorrow, with right-hander, Josh Staumont (1-0, 3.80) on the mound for his sixth start of the year against right-hander, Cy Sneed (4-4, 4.64) countering for the Hooks.
