Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Matt Schweitzer tossed a complete game for the Richmond Roosters, as they take the finale of a three-game series 3-1 from the Grizzlies Monday night in Richmond, Ind.

The game ends the first half of the season for both teams. Both teams finish the first half 19-26.

The Grizzlies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but that is all they could muster against Matt Schweitzer, who fired his third complete game of the year. He struck out eight in the win.

Mike Breyman had the lone RBI. He was 1-3 with an RBI double in the first. Gary Gilbert was 2-4 on the night. He was the only hitter with more than a single hit. Shawn Smarsh and Jimmy Reiter each added a hit.

Nick Szcsur (2-2) started and took the loss for the Grizzlies. Szcsur went seven for the Grizzlies. He allowed all three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out six. Ryan Hamilton pitched a perfect eighth inning to complete the game.

The Grizzlies and the rest of the Frontier League take three nights off. The All-Star game is Wednesday in Washington, PA.

The Grizzlies are back in action Friday night at home. They begin a three-game series against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks. Game time Friday is 7:05 p.m.
