RiverHawks Activate One All-Star, Lose Another

July 11, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford RiverHawks News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks have one all-star coming and one going.

Following Monday's 4-3, 10-inning win over Florence, the RiverHawks activated catcher Kevin Ciarrachi from the disabled list, placed pitcher Joe Barbosa on the 14-day DL and released utility infielder Justin Hardin.

Barbosa is Rockford's top pitcher this season. The third-year professional is 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA, third-best in the Frontier League. He was voted to the Frontier League West Division All-Stars last week by managers, coaches, broadcasters and beat writers. He said he will not attend the game, scheduled for Wednesday at Washington.

Barbosa was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday because of a sore arm.

Ciarrachi missed the first half of the season because of a torn left oblique muscle. Last season, the former Mets and Pirates farmhand was the reserve catcher in the all-star game. He hit a career-best .259 with no home runs and a career-high 25 RBI.

Hardin, a true rookie from Missouri Baptist University, was 0-for-2 in four games with Rockford.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
