Rookie speedster joins Grrrowl roster

GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced that JEREMY CHEYNE (shain) has agreed to terms for the upcoming 2004-05 season. Cheyne played three seasons for Western Michigan University, and will begin his professional career with the Grrrowl.
JEREMY CHEYNE (5-11, 200lbs., right wing) played 87 games for the Broncos of Western Michigan, and totaled 52 points (23G, 29A), and 112 penalty minutes during his career. During the 2003-04 season, Cheyne was second in goals scored (15), including a team-high three (3) game winning scores, while leading the NCAA in break-a-way attempts (31). Before his tenure at WMU, he lead the Alberta Junior Hockey League with 128 points (14 more than the second place finisher) during the 2000-01 season, which included 60 goals.
Marks on Cheyne: "Jeremy comes to us with a long list of high recommendations. He is a very fast skater with a great touch around the net, and has shown that he can put up some big numbers. He was a leader on a solid WMU team, and has had great success in the classroom as well. This is a kind of kid who has the potential to make an impression at this level, and has the abilities to play at the next levels of professional hockey."
CHEYNE joins the following players who have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season: FORWARDS â Krys Barch, Josh Oort, Kevin Bergin, Mike Nelson, Jason Norrie (VET), Carl Mallette, Colin Pepperall (VET), Mark Concannon, Russell Spence, Richard Naumann, Troy Illijow, Richard Pitirri (VET); DEFENSE â Corey Hessler, Paul Esdale, Joey Martin, Jason Metcalfe, Daryl Pierce, Randy Dagenais.
The Grrrowl will open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004 against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information.
