Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have signed right winger Sam Ftorek for the 2004-05 season.

Ftorek returns to the organization having played under Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle during the 2000-01 season with the Mobile Mysticks. The Wolfeboro, New Hampshire native posted 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points including 5 power play goals and 2 game winning goals during the 2000-01 campaign.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound winger finished last season with the Manchester Monarchs after beginning the year with the Greensboro Generals. In 52 games in the American Hockey League last season, Ftorek tallied 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points. In 18 games with Greensboro before being recalled last year he tallied 21 points.

"He's a solid two-way veteran who has a great shot," said Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle, "and can run a power play. Sam adds some grit to out line up and will be a great positive influence in out locker room."

Ftorek spent part of two seasons playing overseas in Europe. During the 1999-00 season, he played in 11 games in Switzerland with Kloten. Following a season in Mobile, the winger appeared in 47 games with the Bracknell Bees of the British International Super League.

During the 2002-03 season, Ftorek tallied a career high 61 points in 72 games with the Greensboro Generals. He ranked first with 17 power play goals and his 5 game winning goals was tops with the Generals during the 2002-03 season.

The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators begin their second season on the road before hosting in-state rival Augusta on Friday, October 29th at 7:35 p.m. at home. In addition to having a ticket package for everyone, the Gladiators also offer group outings, suites and birthday parties.
