Texas Wildcatters News Release
BEAUMONT, TX (September 8, 2004) â Texas Wildcatters Head Coach Robert Dirk announced today the Wildcatters and defenseman Brian Stacey have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season.
"Having Brian back is very big. We would have been a much better hockey club last year if Brian would have been healthy. When he is healthy, he is among the top five defensemen in the ECHL. He solidifies our defense core," said Dirk.
Stacey, 29, is entering his ninth professional season and second with the Wildcatters. The 6-foot, 205-pound defenseman was named the team's inaugural season captain. In addition, he assisted on the Wildcatters historic first goal against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. While injuries limited Stacey to 24 games last year, he finished second in goals among defensemen with five. The native of Oshawa, Ontario has continued his leadership throughout the off-season, assisting Coach Dirk in the recruitment of this year's team.
"I enjoy playing in Southeast Texas and I am looking forward to being healthy and staying healthy for the upcoming season. I am just excited to get back on the ice again," said Stacey. Coach Dirk has high hopes for the return of the âCatters captain. "I expect him to be the captain on and off the ice."
The Wildcatters will open their second season on the road against the defending ECHL Eastern Conference Champion Florida Everblades. The home opener is Saturday, October 30 against the Louisiana IceGators.
