Condors Sign St. Jacques
September 8, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors roster for the upcoming 2004-05 ECHL season has grown with the addition of center/winger Kevin St. Jacques. The Condors now have 13 players on the roster.
St. Jacques, 33, is a veteran of 12 professional seasons. Since turning pro with the International Hockey League's Indianapolis Ice in 1992, he has recorded 288 goals and 849 points in 735 professional North American games, adding over 1,200 career penalty minutes. He is the fourth and final veteran allowed on the active roster by ECHL rules, joining LW Paul Rosebush and D Guy Dupuis and Ryan Gillis. St. Jacques played in the West Coast Hockey League for Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond in Phoenix when the Mustangs captured the Taylor Cup in 1999-00 â his third championship during a four-year stretch.
Last year, the Edmonton native played in the United Hockey League on a line with former Condors winger J.J. Wrobel for the Richmond RiverDogs. He finished first on the team in assists (50) and second in points (67). He also added four points in four playoff games. St. Jacques' point total narrowly snapped his streak of six consecutive seasons of at least 70 points. In the process, he has finished first or second on his team in scoring six times in the last seven years. While he has hit 40 goals only once in the pro ranks, St. Jacques has set up his teammates with at least 40 assists in nine of his 12 seasons. In the post-season he has flourished, averaging 1.2 points per game and totaling 44g-65a-109pts in 93 career playoff games.
As a 20-year old, the Chicago Blackhawks drafted him in the sixth round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He compiled an impressive resume at the junior hockey level, breaking the 100-point barrier twice and winning a Western Hockey League scoring title in 1991-92 when he netted 65 goals and 140 points. He lit the lamp 110 times in his last two WHL seasons. The bulk of his junior career was spent with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, where current Condors Director of Player Personnel Bob Bartlett served as his head coach.
"Mr. St. Jacques has been a winner everywhere he's been and he's got an edge in his play," said Raymond. "We talked about leadership and he's a guy that can bring that to our team, on the ice and in the locker room."
Stats for St. Jacques are listed below. The Condors have seven forwards on the roster, with St. Jacques joining Todd Alexander, Mike Hofstrand, Brett Lutes, Jon Mirasty, Lars Peder Nagel and Paul Rosebush. In addition, five defensemen are signed with Ryan Coole, Guy Dupuis, Ryan Gillis, David Kudelka and Luis Tremblay. Goaltender Sean Fields is also on the roster for 2004-05.
The Bakersfield Condors season opens in 44 days at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $48. Contact the BSE office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
