Lynx Ink Pair From Norwich University
September 8, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
With a solid core of experience in place, the Augusta Lynx added some youth today, announcing the signings of defenseman Lou DeMasi and forward Matt Schmidt from Norwich University.
Schmidt and DeMasi were both four-year teammates at Norwich where they won an NCAA Division III Championship in 2003. Hailing from Markham, Ontario, Schmidt finished second on the team in goals last season with 18, with 14 of those markers coming via the power play. His 24 points tied him with DeMasi for 6th in team scoring last season, but 6-1, 190 lb. defenseman took the opposite route to his point total, notching six goals and 18 assists during the year. For his career, the 6-2, 184 lb. Schmidt amassed 73 goals and 54 assists for 127 points in 113 games. DeMasi totaled 115 contests in his four years, scoring 21 goals and 80 points in all.
Before coming to Norwich, the two also played together at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY. Northwood boasts several NHL alumni among its graduates, including Mike Richter, Tony Granato, Scott Morrow, Chris Nilan, and Craig Conroy.
"Up front Schmidt adds good size and ability to help us offensively," said Lynx Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Stan Drulia. "DeMasi can step in and be a solid defensive addition for us. He's show the ability to also contribute offensively while taking care of play in his own end."
Schmidt and DeMasi now join Steve Munn, Sean Connolly, Terry Marchant, Mark Scott, Jason Saal, Louis Goulet, Todd Bennett, Jarrett Thompson, Treavor Peterson, Lawne Snyder, Dean Jackson, Jeremy Symington, and Josh St. Louis as players heading to camp with the Lynx. Full and partial season tickets are on sale now through the Lynx office by calling (706) 724-4423, or stopping by the office at 712 Telfair St. in downtown Augusta. Fans may also purchase season tickets on the team's web site at www.augustalynx.com. Full season seats start as low as $340 each! Or ask for information on the Small Business Plan. Welcome to THE YEAR OF THE FAN.
