Ronnier Mustelier Named EL Player of the Week

(Trenton, NJ) - The Eastern League announced Monday that former Trenton Thunder third baseman Ronnier Mustelier has been named the league's Player of the Week for the period of April 30-May 6. The announcement marks the second consecutive week a Thunder player has won the award. Both Mustelier and last week's winner Yadil Mujica have since been promoted to Triple-A Scranton.

The 5'10", 210 lb. slugger Mustelier hit .438 (7-for-16) with four homers, eight RBI, seven runs scored, two walks, a .526 on-base percentage and a 1.188 slugging percentage in four games for the Thunder last week. Mustelier, who is a native of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, hit a home run in all four games he played in last week. Among those four home runs were two game-winning ninth inning homers against Portland on April 30th and May 3rd. The 27-year old was rewarded for his performance with a promotion to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, where he went 2-for-5 with a run scored in his Triple-A debut on Saturday night against Pawtucket. Ronnier currently leads the Eastern League in total bases (61) and is also ranked second in slugging percentage (.598) and OPS (1.010), was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on June 7, 2011.

Additionally,Steven Wright of the Akron Aeros, has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 30th-May 6th. The 27-year old made two appearances for the Aeros last week and had a record of 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched .
