Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Senators returned home Monday night after their quick trip to Binghamton to begin a three-game series with Richmond and the bats fell silent in a 2-0 loss. Harrisburg advanced a runner to third base just once in the game as Justin Fitzgerald pitched 8.1 scoreless innings before turning the game over to Brett Bochy.

Mike Ballard started for the Sens and pitched the first five innings allowing both runs though neither one was earned. Richmond scored in the second and in the fifth, both times after there were errors allowing the runner that scored to advance an extra base. Kevin Pucetas followed and was outstanding in three innings of relief allowing just three hits. Christian Garcia pitched a perfect ninth.

Harrisburg had one good scoring opportunity but didn't take advantage of it. In the fifth, Tim Pahuta walked leading off the inning followed by a single off the bat of Chris Rahl. Trailing 2-0, the Sens had the tying runs on and no outs. Sandy Leon dropped down a sacrifice bunt but Stephen King struck out and after Chris McConnell was intentionally walked, pinch-hitter Jesus Valdez bounced out.

Chris McConnell doubled in the eighth, advanced to third, but was left stranded.

Jeff Kobernus lead off the ninth by striking out but reached base on a wild pitch. After Destin Hood flied out, Fitzgerald was lifted for Brett Bochy. Bochy came on and struck out Pahuta and Rahl to end the ballgame.

It's the second time in a week the Sens failed to score a run in a game at home. With the loss they dropped to 17-14 while Richmond improves to 15-17.

Game two of the three-game series is Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on iHeart Radio which is available on the Internet and all mobile devices beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40 p.m.
