Rock Cats Get Joe Benson from Triple-A

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, has received OF Joe Benson from Triple-A Rochester. Benson is on the Twins 40 Man Major League Roster and tied for the team lead with 16 home runs last season in New Britain before getting called up to the major leagues. In an additional roster move, INF Pedro Florimon was promoted from New Britain to Class-AAA Rochester.

Benson, 24, hit .179 with two homers, eight RBI, and a team-high 27 strikeouts in 28 games with the Red Wings this season in the International League. The 24-year-old entered the season as the Twins' No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America. He has hit 39 home runs over the past two seasons with the Rock Cats in the Eastern League, one shy of tying the franchise record.

The switch-hitting Florimon batted .283 with two homers, eight RBI, and seven stolen bases in 30 games with the Rock Cats. The 25-year-old is in his first year in the Twins organization after being claimed off waivers from Baltimore December 5, 2011.
